Pages for iPad
My students recently used Pages on iPad for my STEM camp class, and it went so well! I’m really glad that I was able to read the tutorial before I let my kids just go for it. The Pages app is so neat and has a ton of resources, just like Microsoft Word! It’s so unbelievable how much you can do on the iPad in terms of creating a document.
First of all, you can create all kinds if different documents. Essays, reports, research papers, letters; it even has a note taking template! I wish I would have known about this when I first started taking notes on my iPad. What I have been taking notes on would probably not be half as easy as it would be on the Pages app. It’s also pretty easy to navigate around the Pages app because all of the text customization is on the keyboard itself. It’s very convenient! You can change the font type, size, and alignment. You can even show the paragraph symbol on all of your paragraphs if you choose to.
There’s even more customization on the formatting brush tool, where you can change the font color and bold, underline, or italicize the font. What I found really awesome was the fact that you can make columns in your paper on the Pages app. You can also change the line spacing of your document.
Another really amazing feature is adding pictures and videos to your document. Not only that, but you can add tables, graphs, and shapes. There are so many options when it comes to those, it’s almost implausible! The thing I found to be one of the most useful tools was the fact that you can share a document with someone else and you can see the edits they make. It would be so easy to trade documents in a classroom full of iPads and peer edit a document. Also, it’s easy to just use airdrop to copy the document onto the computer! When I found that out, I knew exactly what to do with my STEM camp students. They could make a piece of creative writing and just airdrop it to the mac and we could print it out. They really loved seeing their stories come to life on paper!
The Pages app for iPad is so incredible. There are a plethora of options to customize your document. I will definitely remember this app in my future if I want to share documents with the class or colleagues. I’m absolutely sure they’ll be impressed.
